Two pupils stand accused of stabbing two fellow pupils

TWO Mfolozi High School pupils facing charges of murder and attempted murder are due back in court next month.

After abandoning their bail application on 29 July, they appeared at KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court again last week, but the magistrate on Friday postponed the matter for further investigation.

Court proceedings were heard in-camera because one of the accused is a minor.

Bandile Simphiwe Dube (19) and a 16-year-old stand accused of stabbing Khumbulani Mgabhi (18), who succumbed to his wounds, and his 17-year-old childhood friend who survived the ordeal.

The survivor’s mother said on Friday that the police told her that once her son is needed by the investigator, or to give testimony in court, she will be notified.

It is alleged that the stabbings were a result of suspected bullying after one of the accused had reportedly instructed each of the victims, separately, to polish his shoes – a request which was rejected.

Schooling was suspended following the stabbings, with pupils and staff receiving counselling, and resumed on 1 August.
