A breath of fresh air for interior design

Nicoll Joubert has a natural talent for breathing new life into spaces. This is evident in the complete transformation she brought about at the Duvenage Inc practice in Kruger Rand Grove.

As part of the law firm’s 30th anniversary celebrations, they tasked Nicoll and her newly-formed interior decorating company, Jouco, to do a make-over of the reception and boardroom areas. It was a five-week challenge which Nicoll embraced with open arms.

Playing with a neutral colour scheme, and adding a few hints of gold, Nicoll incorporated a mix of natural and modern materials to give it a stylish and modern appearance.

The boardroom’s glass tabletops with steel frames and ultra-modern lighting fixtures are softened by wooden trimmings against the walls, luxurious upholstered chairs and cleverly placed wall art.

Local artist Inge du Preez was commissioned to do the wall art and paintings, each reflecting the law firm’s corporate colours in a subtle and inobtrusive manner.

The receptionist’s desk was designed by Nicoll and custom-made by Vincent Read from Umfolozi Wood Creations to be both ultra-modern and functional.

Nicoll said her inspiration for this project came from a few images she saw online, and this was steered further by the existing corporate colours of the firm.

Describing her design style as ‘transitional – combining contemporary style with classical furniture’, Nicoll said: “My inspiration always starts with a single item. It could be a tile or a piece of furniture or a colour scheme that the client loves.”

She is passionate about creating beautiful spaces and thrilled to be able to make a living from this God-given talent.

After years spent in the corporate industry and redesigning homes on the side, she realised her passion for decorating and for service excellence can be combined, and the family business dream came to life. Through loving support and a keen eye for precision, Nicoll’s husband Brenton supported her and they embarked on this journey together at the beginning of the year.

Nicoll recently obtained a Diploma of Interior Design from the International Interior Design Institute and already has a few successful projects under her belt.

“Jouco may be a young, small-town business, but with the gifts received from our Lord and Saviour, we are eager to turn Richards Bay into a world class design mecca.”
