The IFP in KZN will tomorrow (Friday) march against crime and violence against women and children.
Marchers will gather on Empangeni’s Main Road at the Central Park intersection and, starting at 9am, will march to Empangeni police station.
The march emanates from the 2022/23 first quarter crime stats released last week by the police minister, which featured Empangeni and Richards Bay police stations in the top 30 of some of the notorious crimes in the country.
IFP Provincial Chairperson Thami Ntuli said the party notes with serious concern that crime in certain areas of uMhlathuze Municipality is not receiving the required level of attention from Empangeni SAPS.
“Confirmation of this is visible through the recent crime statistics released last week by Minister of Police Bheki Cele, where Empangeni police station, which services the majority of areas under the City of uMhlathuze, was rated among the top 30 when it comes to high unresolved murder and rape cases in the province,” said Ntuli.
“eNseleni is one such area where a week does not go by without a rape or murder case being reported,” he added.
He said IFP men in KZN who are committed to fighting this scourge of gender-based violence will lead this march to hand over a memorandum to the police minister through KZN provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
