WATCH: Hoax looting social media posts amid Durban taxi strike

Numerous social media posts have falsely reported looting to have taken place in Durban's Umgeni Road on Monday morning

VIDEOS and photographs have been circulating on social media today (Monday), showing visuals of chaos and disruption in the Durban CBD.

This as reports on a taxi strike in Durban shifted to other social media posts reporting looting incidents to have taken place on Umgeni Road earlier this morning.

Durban Metro police Superintendent Boysie Zungu said the looting claims are false.

“We have not come across any looting incidents and the taxi blockade protest has been cleared,” said Zungu.

According to other media reports, the roads affected by this morning’s taxi protest were reopened at 10.40am.
