KZN transport department launches road repair youth programme

The project aims to train young people in minor repairs and road maintenance

The KZN Department of Transport has deployed around 4 000 youth to conduct repairs to damaged roads and other aging infrastructure under Dannhauser Municipality.

The project, Vukayibambe Routine Road Maintenance, was launched last Wednesday, officiated by Transport Portfolio Committee Chairperson Sibonelo Mtshali, municipal representatives and traditional leaders, as well as Transport HOD Siboniso Mbhele.

Vukayibambe Routine Road Maintenance project under way

The project aims to train young people in minor repairs and road maintenance. This includes pothole patching, road marking, grass cutting, and other related activities.

Priority was given to flood-damaged infrastructure and roads that have reached their lifespan.

The programme is being rolled out in all districts.
