Richards Bay SPCA rabies outreach a success

KZN is in the midst of a rabies outbreak

Hundreds of dogs and cats were inoculated against the dreaded rabies disease during the month of June, thanks to outreaches held by the Richards Bay SPCA.

Suburb by suburb in the Bay, the SPCA staff and committee members have stationed themselves at an advertised location each Friday, where residents bring their pets for vaccination.

Starting in Veldenvlei on 3 June, the dedicated team vaccinated more than 20 cats and many more dogs.

The high number of cats brought to the free rabies clinic on the day was particularly encouraging.

Then it was onto Arboretum on

17 June where an impressive 188 dogs and 14 cats were vaccinated, keeping the SPCA team on their toes the entire afternoon.

Last week it was the turn of Birdswood for the rabies outreach, where 71 dogs and six cats were inoculated.

This Friday the clinic will move to Brackenham where it will be held between 12 noon and 4pm at the community hall.
