LOAD-SHEDDING: Empangeni and Richards Bay not affected by stage 6
Customers who get electricity from the municipality will only be load-shed once a day
In the wake of Eskom announcing stage 6 load-shedding for the country, the City of uMhlathuze has explained how this will affect local residents.
According to information from Councillor Christo Botha, who is also chairperson of the electrical and energy portfolio, residents within the City of uMhlathuze who are fed electricity from the municipality, will never experience more than two hours of load-shedding on any given day.

He said the different stages of load-shedding determine only the number of blocks that are shed on the day.
Under the City of uMhlathuze, Empangeni and Richards Bay are fed electricity from the municipality, while eSikhaleni, Ngwelezana, Felixton, eNseleni and Vulindlela are supplied directly from Eskom.
Load-shedding stages for municipal-supplied areas (Empangeni and Richards Bay):
Stage 1: blocks 1-7 (mainly residential areas)
Stage 2: blocks 1-7 and 8-14 (residential and businesses)
Stage 3 and beyond: blocks 1-7, 8-14 and key customers (residential, businesses and key customers such as the port or industry)
Load-shedding stages for Eskom-supplied areas:
Stage 1: 2.5 hours twice a day
Stage 2: 2.5 hours three times a day
Stage 3: 2.5 hours four times a day
Stage 4: 2.5 hours six times a day
