Police spokesperson Captain Justice Hlabisa said police intercepted two trucks carrying loads of counterfeit goods, with a street value of R20-million, travelling along the R22.

‘Police have noticed that suspects have changed their modus operandi when transporting fake goods. They now use hired trucks to execute their criminal activities,’ Hlabisa said.

‘During the operation, two trucks with foreign registrations were stopped and searched, and found to be carrying undeclared fake goods, including food and clothing, which were seized.

The goods and trucks were confiscated and certified as counterfeit by Golela Border Post Customs.

Hlabisa said two male suspects and one female were arrested and appeared before the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court last Monday.

They were remanded in police custody pending further investigations, and are expected in court this week for a formal bail application.
