A man (35) found guilty of raping his 11-year-old niece was last Monday sentenced to life imprisonment by Nquthu Regional Court.
The court heard how the victim was forced to watch a pornographic video at his home before he raped her.
After the assault, he gave her R8 and threatened to kill her if she reported the rape to anyone.
However, she did report the incident and a case of rape was opened at Mondlo Saps. The case was transferred to the Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit.
Following a thorough investigation, the accused was arrested and, after several court appearances, was found guilty and sentenced to life behind bars.
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his name was added to the sexual offenders register.
