Myriad potholes need fixing in Richards Bay and beyond

The recent heavy rains exacerbated the city's already damaged roads

The recent heavy rains served only to worsen the state of Richards Bay’s roads which are littered with potholes of varying size, shape and depth.

While the City of uMhlathuze is working on beautifying the state of the city, including carrying out much-needed grass cutting and traffic light repairs, the potholes are an ongoing cause for concern and safety for motorists.

Ward 2 councillor Christo Botha is compiling a list of all the potholes on the city’s roads and has called on residents to report those they come across on a daily basis.

One such major and dangerous pothole is on Guldengracht road in the CBD, at the four-way stop intersection with Cent Circle where an underground water pipe appears to have ruptured, causing perpetual streams across the road.

The pothole is constantly filled with water, making it easy for motorists to miss it, and drive into it.

Other potholes reported by residents include eight on Dune Route between Meerensee and Mzingazi, many on the John Ross exiting Meerensee,

North Central Arterial between Brackenham and the N2, in Veldenvlei near the Cansa House, Via Richardia between Bamboobrook and

Boekenhout, between Rooibosrand and Rhus Lancea in Arboretum, as well as many reported in Empangeni and Felixton.
