Alcohol affects cognitive function – but it can be reversed

According to a recent study by Affinity Health, prolonged, and even small doses of alcohol consumption have a negative effect on our brain cells.

However, the study revealed that the damage caused to the brain by alcohol can, in most cases, be reversed.

Researchers are using magnetic resonance imaging to diagnose brain cell damage caused by alcohol consumption and if the brain can truly heal itself.

‘These MRI investigations have demonstrated that two weeks of abstinence heals grey matter,’ she added.

The study indicates that individuals who abstain from consumption have more brain tissue than light-to-moderate alcohol drinkers.
