WATCH: Snow warning video old news

The narrator states snowfall is the result of 'cold weather on its way from the Arctic', but it is the Antarctic to the south of Africa, and from which the video's band of cold air is shown to be moving

If you have seen a video forecasting heavy snowfall over parts of South Africa over the next 10 days, ignore it as fake news and do not forward it.

This message comes from the experts at Storm Report SA who said the video, which has been circulating on various social media platforms all day, is old news and was released last year.

The video, reportedly narrated by The Weather Hooligan, forecasts snowfall for Witbank, Graaff Reinet, as well as over Lesotho, Mooi River, Newcastle and Secunda.

The narrator states snowfall is the result of ‘cold weather on its way from the Arctic’, but it is the Antarctic to the south of Africa, and from which the video’s band of cold air is shown to be moving.

Storm Report SA said on its Facebook page that it has received numerous enquiries about the video, and urged users not to share it with their contacts.

Meanwhile, there is no mention of the video on The Weather Hooligan Facebook page.
On a similar note, a yellow level 4 weather alert issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) yesterday (Sunday) is being circulated in error today.

Severe Weather and Information Centre SA (SwaicSA) said on its Facebook page earlier today that no official severe weather warnings have yet been issued by the SAWS today.

SwaicSA group admin Angelo Hoorn said that while localised flooding was possible today, owing to predicted light rain and KZN’s soil being saturated post-flooding, it was not imminent.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Jasmine is not expected to make landfall in South Africa.
