Relief arranged for flood victims

School uniforms will also be provided to pupils who lost their belongings as a result of the disaster

KZN communities impacted by the devastating floods are set to receive assistance from Sassa through the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) programme.

KZN Sassa acting regional executive manager Simlindile Jabavu said they are liaising with district disaster teams to obtain a list of affected individuals and conduct needs assessments.

‘As soon as we receive the list we will ensure food vouchers to the value of R700 are distributed to the identified individuals. School uniforms will also be provided to pupils who lost their belongings as a result of the disaster,’ said Jabavu.

He said access to some of their offices in the province has been impacted by the floods.

‘Assessments will be carried out in offices along the coast where roads were damaged, preventing officials from accessing respective places of employment.

‘In areas where Sassa could not pay at cash payout points in King Cetshwayo District and parts of Uthukela District, payments will be rescheduled in consultation with beneficiaries and local leadership.’
