Imbumba Foundation extends footprint through key partnership

Imbumba Foundation's Caring4Girls initiative focuses on sexual reproductive health in girls

Over 2 000 KZN schoolgirls from 10 schools benefitted from Imbumba Foundation’s Caring4Girls initiative – a menstrual hygiene programme that provides sanitary towels and puberty education to indigent girls.

This was made possible by a recent partnership formed with &Beyond lodges and the Africa Foundation which is committed to supporting communities surrounding Phinda Private Game Reserve in Zululand.

The partnership is providing 12 months’ supply of sanitary towels to a total of 6 000 girl beneficiaries, which equates to over 660 000 sanitary pads to empower indigent girls by keeping them in school.

This distribution was the first for the year and will be followed by a further outreach to ten more schools in communities surrounding &Beyond’s Ngala Private Game Reserve in Mpumalanga.

Attending the handout was Clement Maosa, popularly known as ‘Kwaito’, from the SABC 1 Soap Opera ‘Skeem Saam’ as a special guest to deliver an inspirational talk to both the male and female learners.

He encouraged them to work hard and create a vision for their future.

The Caring4Girls initiative addresses the harsh reality that many girls miss school days and others drop out completely owing to a lack of adequate menstrual hygiene support, and period poverty.

Africa Foundation CEO Dr Andrew Venter commended Imbumba Foundation’s Caring4Girls programme, describing it as ‘incredible’.

‘It is transformational for thousands of girls, dramatically improving their quality of life and access to education,’ he said.

‘We are privileged to be able to partner with Imbumba, to extend the Caring4Girls programme to include 20 of our partner schools.

‘We look forward to the journey ahead as we work together with our partner communities to support their sustainability,’ said Venter.
