Post Office launches water-saving initiative

The SA Post Office may not use water in its operations, the entity has found ways to reduce water consumption at its facilities

In celebration of International Water Day, commemorated annually on 22 March, the SA Post Office has implemented a number of energy-saving measures, including reduced water usage.

To conserve this vital resource, employees were educated on water-saving measures, with any leaks receiving immediate attention.

The results have paid off because, in February, water consumption dropped by 600 kilolitres when compared with February last year.

The organisation is extending energy-saving measures across all its operations.

There was a reduction in vehicle emissions last month, to 15% below the target of 653 kilotons of CO2.

Also last month, electricity consumption dropped to 22% lower than the target of 6 254 kilowatt hours. This was achieved by using power-saving devices such as LED light bulbs.

The Post Office is now looking to reduce paper consumption, with the entity using 1 129 tonnes in February, failing to achieve its target.

The Post Office recycles as much waste paper as possible, often recycling more than it uses by including paper found in dustbins in public areas.
