The purpose of the city’s visit to the club was to discuss the club’s positive community involvement, its massive contribution to local tourism, and possible future collaboration and projects.

‘We love sport, and encourage our people to take part and parents to allow their children to do so.

‘Sport can take our children off the street, and we encourage them to find out how they can be associated with the club to learn and develop sailing skills as well as others needed in their industry.

‘We need to come together and learn from each other,’ said City Mayor Xolani Ngwezi.

A walk around the club’s premises was led by club commodore Gert le Roux, Jackie Smit, City Speaker Tobias Gumede and City Mayor Xolani Ngwezi

He also advised club members to start a programme to train lifeguards to work during the festive season.

Club commodore Gert le Roux spoke about the sailing industry and how the club works, while Jackie Smit touched on various club projects, including the Winter Warriors programme which assists local orphanages and disadvantaged communities.

As well as the city mayor, Speaker Tobias Gumede attended, as well as other top municipal officials.
