NFP slams State of Disaster extension

The National State of Disaster has been extended for another month

The NFP in KZN has described the government’s decision to extend the National State of Disaster as ‘suicidal’ and one which indicates a country with a ‘disastrous leadership’.

Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma earlier today (Tuesday) announced the State of Disaster would be extended until 15 April.

In a statement issued by NFP Secretary-General Canaan Mdletshe, the party said it was hoping the State of Disatster would be lifted owing to declining Covid-19 infections.

‘For a full two years, our country’s economy has ground to a halt. Millions of people lost their little income, while thousands are still suffering as a result of placing our country in lockdown,’ he said.

‘Twenty-four months later, our disastrous government saw it fit to further extend the National State of Disaster.’

The party also called for the reopening of stadiums, the opening of all economic activities, and the removal of masks.

‘The latest extension must be ignored and people must be allowed to lead normal lives. We want to see performing artists, and musicians holding concerts with halls full to capacity.’

‘Keeping the country in a lockdown is no longer necessary. Job searches and seekers must be allowed to return to their normal job-hunting activities. And we call on companies not to force workers to wear musks or provide vaccination certificate or proof.’

‘Tourists must be allowed into the country without any preconditions or provision of vaccination certificates.’
