Two corporates merged to develop and give back to the communities in which they operate.

An agreement between Mhlathuze Water and the Energy and Water Sector Education Training Authority (EWSETA) holds the promise of making a dent in the country’s skills gap.

Through the partnership, 20 bursaries have been set aside to assist youth in undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

The bursaries cover various areas of study, including the scarce skills fields of engineering, IT, hydrology and water resource management.

Under the agreement, a sum of R1.6-million has been set aside to cover tuition, accommodation and study materials for the 20 successful applicants.

Mhlathuze Water spokesperson Siyabonga Maphumulo said applicants must be younger than 25 and must have already been accepted for full-time study at accredited institutions of higher learning.

‘The partnership between ourselves and EWSETA aims to assist particularly those students who come from our areas of supply which include the uMkhanyakude, King Cetshwayo and Zululand districts,’ he said.

Bursary application forms can be accessed on www.mhlathuze.co.za and all completed applications can be sent via email to bursaries@mhlathuze.co.za
