HILLSIDE ALUMINIUM CARBON PLANT: REFRACTORIES

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

South32, Hillside Aluminium is an aluminium smelter located in Richards Bay. The smelter has been in operation for approximately 25 years and utilises the Aluminium Pechiney (AP30) technology, which produces 720 KT of aluminium annually. The Carbon department manufactures approximately 432 000 carbon anode blocks for the reduction process annually.

The Carbon department is made up of 3 main sections namely, Anode Paste Plant, Anode Bake Furnace and Anode Rodding Shop. The Anode Bake Furnace is made up off 3 x Baking Furnaces with 136 sections, which is used to bake the anodes, and the Anode Rodding Shop has 3 x 5-ton Cast Iron Induction Furnaces, which is used to mate the anode to a stem.

The Carbon scope is for 3 suitable vendors to provide the services for the following scope of works:
