Cansa donates care hampers to families

The Cansa TLC programme also supports the child or teen who has a parent or sibling diagnosed with cancer.

The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) is giving back to the community in celebration of International Childhood Cancer Day commemorated on Tuesday (15 February).

Cansa will visit Parklands Hospital to hand over baby care hampers in support of children with cancer.

KZN Cansa’s sustainability co-ordinator Lloyd Dlamini said cancer treatment can be daunting, especially for little ones who are diagnosed with cancer.

He said that, as cancer diagnosis impacts the entire family, the Cansa TLC programme also supports the child or teen who has a parent or sibling diagnosed with cancer.

‘As we recognise that they also take strain due to the demands placed on them by cancer, these children and teens are sometimes thrust into the role of a caregiver and need guidance and support,’ said Dlamini.

He added that Cansa’s telephone counselling service, which is free of charge and available in seven languages, is provided to parents or guardians, children and teens with cancer, or children and teens whose loved ones have cancer.
