ANDRE Mudaly of the Zululand Shore Angling Association landed a monster of the deep recently while fishing the Zululand coastline.
The specimen in question was a Zambezi shark (also known as a bull shark) and was estimated to weigh around 300kg.
Once on the line after eagerly grabbing the swim bait, the shark fought Mudaly for two hours before eventually being landed.
The massive Zambezi was caught using a Daiwa Saltist rod and 100lb J braid paired with an Avet reel.
The creature was quickly and safely released after Mudaly was able to grab a quick photo.
Mudaly will soon be competing in the South African Surf Casting Championships, which are set to be held in Langebaan in the Western Cape from 27-29 January.
The accomplished angler will then be tackling the South African A-Nationals in the Eastern Cape on 28 February.
