Anglers working the north coast waters between uMdloti and Sodwana reaped rewards on both the offshore and shore fronts.

Deep sea anglers getting close on the inshore reefs caught some big couta on live bait. Down rigging the live bait seems to be key in getting the bigger bites.

Anglers are encouraged to fish with one bait close to the bottom and another slightly higher in the water column to maximise chances of landing a good-sized fish.

The general rule is to start fishing closer to the surface and move deeper as the day goes on.

There have also been plenty of dorado around which have been targeted using pink and purple lures close to a structure of some kind.

Rock and surf anglers using lighter tackle have reeled in many grey sharks. Those looking for bigger fish have done well with mackerel and redeye baits on FMJ traces, particularly in deeper waters. This can be off a rocky point or by clearing the sandbank on the beach.

There have also been edible fish around in the form of shad and kob. The latter has favoured chokka baits mixed with a bit of sardine, while shad love sardine bait with plenty of flesh on the outside.
