New Year’s resolutions should include safety factors

Check your alarm and security systems operate

Making new year’s resolutions date back 4 000 years it seems, with researchers believing the Babylonians were the first to make certain promises at the beginning of a new calendar year.

Popular goals at the end of the year include getting back into the gym, changing the way you work with money, or just making general lifestyle improvements.

But it is also a rime to pay attention to becoming more alert about safety.

When was the last time you tested your home alarm system?

Ensuring your system is fully functional in cases of emergencies is obviously crucial.

One must also ensure your security company has all your updated contact information on file.

This includes the details of secondary contacts in case the main contact person is not reachable.

Doing a walk around your home and property is important.

If there are dense bushes or plants in the garden, make sure they do not obscure outdoors passive or infrared alarm sensors.

Newly renovated rooms should be adequately covered by the alarm system.

Pay attention to branches that could trigger the electric fences and aslarms, or any damage that could have been done by strong winds or heavy rain.

Store valuables, such as bicycles and children’s toys, and anything that could be used to break into a home in a locked garage.

CCTV systems are no longer as prohibitively expensive as they have been in the past.

Burglar bars, security gates and an alarm system linked to a reaction service help bring peace of mind.
