NINE people including a toddler were injured when two cars collided in Empangeni earlier this (Monday) afternoon.

The accident occurred just after midday in the middle of the R102/R34 main road intersection.

Emergency services personnel who had rushed to the scene confirmed there were no fatalities, and that all injured passengers were taken to hospital for further assessment.

‘An occupant in one of the vehicles was a toddler of about two years, while a pregnant woman was in the other vehicle.

While no one suffered serious injuries, we thought we had come to assist one injured person, but all of a sudden we had nine injuries to treat,’ said Joe Kruger of Mounties EMS.

A passer-by said he heard a crash and ran to see what had happened.

‘I was sitting under a tree at the park when I heard the noise. I rushed to the area and saw that two vehicles had collided. I could also see some of the occupants jumping out of the vehicles with no visible injuries.’
