Pongola robbery suspects quickly tracked down

Eight robbery suspects appeared in the Pongola Magistrate’s Court on Monday and were remanded in custody pending further investigations.

Aged between 28 and 38, they were arrested last Friday during a multi-disciplinary, intelligence-driven operation conducted in Pongola by police and South African National Defence Force members.

Zululand cluster police spokesperson, Captain Nkosie Gwala, said during the operation police received information of a business robbery in progress at a shop in the Godlwayo area.

‘A team responded immediately and was led to a homestead where the eight suspects were found hiding. Three pistols with serial numbers filed off and ten live rounds of ammunition were recovered.’
