Robbery victim charged with murder

The man (41) was remanded in police custody pending further investigations

A suspect accused of two murders appeared on Wednesday in the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court.

The man (41) was remanded in police custody pending further investigations, and is expected back in court this Wednesday for a formal bail application.

According to community member Sihle Dlamini, the matter emanated from a house break-in that occurred last Tuesday at the murder suspect’s home in eNseleni.

‘Goods were taken in the robbery, and the matter was reported to the eNseleni satellite police station the same day.

‘After reporting the matter, the man reportedly followed information about the four suspects involved. The information led him to Slovo Village in KwaMbonambi,’ Dlamini said.

He said when the suspect arrived in KwaMbonambi, he was assisted by five unknown women who were walking along the road.

‘After enquiring about the house break-in suspects, the women directed him to where Isikhebe members were interrogating four alleged house robbers.

‘It is believed that when the suspect arrived at the place he was directed to, the Isikhebe members indicated that the four men were responsible for a house break-in.

‘They loaded the recovered items into the house robbery victim’s bakkie, and he drove back to eNseleni satellite police station, leaving the Isikhebe members with their suspects.

‘When he later saw the Isikhebe members and the robbery suspects approaching the police station, the man went into the station and informed the police that he had recovered his goods, and that the people who were found with the suspected stolen property were approaching the station.

‘When the police members went outside to investigate, they found the bodies of two unknown men. The two deceased had been severely beaten,’ Dlamini said.

A police source said the murder suspect told them he was following information on Facebook relating to the break-in, which led him to KwaMbonambi.

‘He claimed the information was that the suspects who committed house robberies in eNseleni were also operating in Slovo Village,’ said the police source.

King Cetshwayo cluster police spokesperson Captain Siyanda Shangase confirmed that two murder cases were registered at Empangeni Saps.
