More thunderstorms predicted for the region

The latest warning follows Friday's thunderstorm which led to the tragic death of a 13-year-old girl from Nquthu

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has once again predicted severe thunderstorms for some parts of KZN, including the Zululand region this (Sunday) afternoon.

The thunderstorms, which are expected from the afternoon until evening over most parts of Mpumalanga as well as northern and north-western parts of KZN, could result in localised flooding in places, strong damaging winds and large amounts of small hail.

The latest warning follows Friday’s thunderstorm which led to the tragic death of a 13-year-old girl from Ntabamkhosi in the Nquthu Local Municipality, who was struck by lightning.

KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Sipho Hlomuka has deployed disaster management teams to provide support to the affected family.

The MEC has further called upon residents to exercise extreme caution as the province is expected to experience inclement weather conditions during the course of the season.
