Mbazwana gunman in court

Zenzele Mzila first appeared in the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

A 36-year-old man on Tuesday made his second appearance at the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court following his arrest last week while attempting to flee from police.

Zenzele Mzila first appeared in the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 6 October on charges of attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

It is alleged that on the evening of 5 October, Hluhluwe police officers received information about a suspicious vehicle travelling towards their area at high speed.

It was established that the vehicle had been involved in an attempted murder in Mbazwana, more than 80km from Hluhluwe, in which a 27-year-old man was shot multiple times.

Hluhluwe police proceeded to the R22 in Hluhluwe where they spotted the vehicle and engaged in a pursuit from Mziki River to the Landini turn-off where they intercepted it.

Upon searching Mzila, police found a pistol and a magazine with two rounds of ammunition. He was placed under arrest and his vehicle impounded for further investigation.
