The officers are attached to the National Intervention Unit in Durban. Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Grace Langa said that on 2 February 2018 the officers went to Ntsele’s homestead to look for an unlicensed firearm.

‘According to family members who were ordered to remain indoors, they heard a commotion and the deceased crying in agony.

‘After a while the noise subsided and the family noticed the police vehicle reversing onto the property, in which Ntsele was loaded and driven away.

‘Later in the day, the local SAPS members visited the family to report that Ntsele had died, and the matter was reported to IPID for investigation,’ Langa said.
