Total recorded cases for each district were 43 033, 18 891 and 24 459 respectively.

Provincially, 512 639 cases have been recorded, with 15 271 active cases, 481 868 recoveries and 14 636 deaths.

In the 24 hours leading up to Tuesday afternoon, 90 new cases were recorded, compared with 177 new cases recorded over the previous 24 hours.

Across South Africa, there were 36 679 active cases as of Tuesday afternoon, with 768 new cases recorded.

A total of 18 285 920 vaccines have been administered.

South Africa’s Covid-19 recovery rate is 95.7%, and the countrywide 87 922 deaths have been recorded since the onset of the pandemic.

While the government’s Covid vaccine certificate is in the process of being rolled out, it is yet to be officially announced.

On Tuesday, the Department of Health said it is still in the testing phase of the system to troubleshoot all possible glitches ahead of the official launch later this week.

‘The system is not yet officially functional in a live environment which will enable vaccinated individuals to access and download certificates,’ said the department in a statement.

‘We had to build effective security into the system to protect individuals` personal data.

‘The development and release of fully-fledged Covid-19 vaccination certificates will be phased in over time,’ the department said.
