WATCH: Richards Bay truck backlog nightmare costs companies

The trucks waiting to enter the Richards Bay terminal were backed up since Sunday, 26 October

CONGESTION at the Transnet Port Terminal in Richards Bay remained by Friday as trucks continued to line up to off-load cargo.

The backlog observed on Richards Bay’s roads earlier in the week caused chaos for local business owners and motorists travelling in Alton and around the Harbour Arterial.

The congestion, reportedly caused by off-loading delays at the terminal, has been described as a logistical nightmare which will have huge financial implications for the industry.

Speaking to the Zululand Observer on Friday, Managing Director of Arxo Logistics, Elize Rogers, said they were forced to divert about 300 trucks as a result of the delays.

Arxo Logistics was established to handle logistics for chrome and platinum concentrates producer, Tharisa Mine.

‘The backlog is very bad. The trucks have been standing from three to five days to off-load.
