Foundation supports struggling northern KZN families

Following July's civil unrest, Imbumba launched the Rise food parcel relief campaign to support affected families in Gauteng and KZN. Foundation CEO Richard Mabaso said they partnered with various organisations to mobilise resources.

THE Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), which has committed itself to support 1 500 destitute families, partnered with the Imbumba Foundation to distribute food parcels to families in Jozini, Ndumo, Mduku and Khula Village last Wednesday.

‘We are truly grateful to the IDC, which has been a partner since 2015, for once again coming on board to support the most vulnerable and marginalised in our society,’ said Mabaso.

Working in partnership with traditional councils, including the deputy chairperson of the KZN House of Traditional Leaders, Inkosi Thabisile Zulu, Imbumba continues to support those impacted by both Covid-19 and the looting.

Mabaso said according to the article ‘Defeat Poverty’ published by Global Citizen, more than six million people – or 11% of the country’s population – are food insecure.

‘The impact of the looting has been severe in some areas as limited resources are being distributed and reserved for urban areas and not reaching rural districts.

‘Many workers who have lost their jobs have now returned to their ancestral homes with no income and no means of survival, relying on the help of aged parents and elders.’
