WATCH: Truck logjam on the John Ross

The logjam of trucks on Tuesday is believed to have been caused by recent power dips which have affected a number of businesses in the area. Trucks were reportedly backed up from the Alton intersection along the John Ross Highway up until Foskor.

A NUMBER of trucks heading into Transnet Port Terminal in Richards Bay has caused congestion on the John Ross Highway.

The logjam of trucks on Tuesday is believed to have been caused by recent power dips which have affected a number of businesses in the area. Trucks were reportedly backed up from the Alton intersection along the John Ross Highway up until Foskor.

While traffic was free flowing, trucks were queuing on the right hand side of the Empangeni carriageway.

In some places, trucks were reportedly parked on the grass in-between the carriageways. Business owners further complained of a large number of trucks parking alongside business properties in Alton hindering access to companies.

This follows a similar backlog experienced three weeks ago on Harbour Arterial, stretching down to Alumina Allee in Alton.

In a communique issued to stakeholders earlier this month, Transnet said the power outages resulted in delays in the offloading of trucks, leading to a major backlog.
