Mobile recording studio boost for emerging artists

The mobile studio will visit all 11 districts in KwaZulu-Natal

To assist emerging artists in recording their music without having to travel to big cities such as Durban and Johannesburg, Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation MEC, Hlengiwe Mavimbela, launched a mobile recording studio in the Mbazwana Arts Centre on Sunday.

‘We understand how much artists have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, and this studio is part of the efforts to revive the entertainment sector,’ Mavimbela said.

She explained that the mobile studio will visit all 11 districts in KwaZulu-Natal to identify talent and provide marketing opportunities for emerging artists.

An Afro House music artist, Sphamandla Mafuleka of Mbazwana, was excited about finally having an opportunity to record his music in a professional studio.

‘Our facilities in uMkhanyakude cannot produce broadcast quality music, so we appreciate this opportunity from the Department of Arts and Culture.

‘We have been waiting to release our song since the beginning of the year and perhaps now our dreams can finally come true,’ Mafuleka said.

Gospel artist Mzomuhle Mdletshe also welcomed the initiative.

‘I was excited to see my music recorded by professionals who know what they are doing and using state-of-the-art technology.’
