The Southern African Music Rights Organisation (Samro) is pushing its ‘jab to jive’ policy, which encourages vaccine passports to attend live events.
With lockdown Level 2 in place, the organisation is calling on government to introduce measures that will allow performers to earn a living.
According to Sambro CEO Mark Rosin, they’re encouraging the relaxation of some lockdown restrictions, such as the number of people permitted to attend public gatherings, as well as the introduction of vaccine passports for entry control.
‘Artists and musicians have taken a severe battering during lockdown, which effectively placed a ban on all public performances ,’ said Rosin.
‘This has seriously impeded the ability of artists and performers to earn a living and left most of our members struggling financially.
‘Introducing vaccine passports as a prerequisite for attending live events would be the ideal solution to ensuring public safety and curbing the spread of the virus, while also affording artists the much-needed opportunity to earn a living.’
