Claim errors delay Covid-19 Ters payments

Most Covid-19 Ters payments are unsuccessful owing to employers or their representatives failing to follow the application procedures correctly

To finalise outstanding claims, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) has appealed to employers to correct any errors on the Covid-19 Ters portal.

Acting UIF commissioner Advocate Mzie Yawa said claims could only be evaluated by the information supplied by applicants on the system.

‘The UIF has done all it needed to and the onus is now on the claimants – if they qualify,’ said Yawa.

Since the introduction of the relief scheme in March last year, the UIF has issued payments totalling R63-billion. From the 786 972 applications received, 14 292 888 payments have been made.

‘We aim to decrease the number of outstanding claims and ultimately close them by the end of December, as they cannot remain open indefinitely,’ Yawa said, adding that the portal posts self-explanatory error messages.

‘Most Covid-19 Ters payments are unsuccessful owing to employers or their representatives failing to follow the application procedures correctly.’

Common errors include declarations, incorrect banking details, incorrect income, invalid identity and passport numbers.
