Great gains for north coast anglers

Fish have once again been feeding well in both the deep sea and shallow waters all along the North Coast shoreline

FISH have once again been feeding well in both the deep sea and shallow waters, providing anglers with full hatches and many stories to share with friends and family.

Deep sea goers got stuck into some good-sized snoek at the usual spots, with Tinley Manor and Blythedale proving to be the true hot spots.

The secret to success has been trolling fillets on the backline, along with good quality, small lipped minnows.

Ensure trolling of the smaller lures is on lighter line (less than 11.3kg) to make sure they swim properly.

Heavy line cannot reach the proper depth.

Also consider fishing them without wire, to increase the number of bites.

Bottom fishing up north has been a bit quieter than the rest of the coast, but there have still been some good hauls of geelbek and daga.

The rock and surf lads have managed to get stuck into some early summer fish, with sandies and brown skates being the first of the summer fish to grace the shores.

Remember to use the best quality bait possible, as well as the freshest.

Most of the summer fish have enjoyed fleshy baits, but when targeting the bigger edibles, a mixed bait of chokka and redeye has proven successful.

If you are using a circle hook, make sure the hook has enough movement and gape to do its job.
