SIX thousand food parcels have been allocated to the King Cetshwayo District Municipality (KCDM) for distribution to needy families in various communities.
The food parcels have been donated by the Solidarity Fund through the Department of Social Development (DSD) with the aim of providing relief to communities affected by the July unrest.

The recipients have been identified by DSD and the programme is being rolled out as part of the District Development Model of government.
District Mayor Lindokuhle Phungula has already begun the intensive distribution drive after receiving the first 2 500 food parcels last week.
Phungula visited Mthonjaneni Municipality last week and handed over 648 parcels to affected residents from wards 5,6, 10 and 13.
The mayor, who was accompanied by other district officials, then moved to Nkandla Municipality where food was donated to communities from wards 4, 5,11 and 14.
