Richards Bay police say they will continue to clamp down on uMhlathuze city businesses not complying with Covid-19 regulations.
This follows a major raid conducted by SAPS, the Empangeni Public Order Policing unit, municipal security and SANDF members at the Waterfront over the weekend.
The 40-man law enforcement operation inspected various businesses premises to ensure compliance. ‘Arrests were made for the contravention of the Disaster Management Act.
We will have a zero tolerance approach to people who continue to flout regulations,’ said Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson, Captain Debbie Ferreira.
This after large groups of revellers were captured on video at waterfront establishments and carpark areas, partying until past midnight amid blaring music and drunken behaviour.
‘We remind businesses and residents that Level 3 regulations are still in place, and everyone must adhere to them,’ said Ferreira.
According to disaster management regulations, restaurants, taverns and other social and recreational facilities must be closed by 9pm.
Under lockdown Level 3 restrictions, establishments are permitted to have no more than 50 patrons indoors and 100 outdoors, with curfew applicable from 10pm to 4am.
