WATCH: Three days of no water for eSikhaleni communities

The City of uMhlathuze is working on obtaining diesel for tankers and generators

Hundreds of people have been left without water for almost three days owing to illegal electrical connections which have caused the power supply to trip at the Cubhu Treatment Plant.

As a result, the uMhlathuze Municipality has been unable to pump water into the eSikhaleni reservoirs, which are currently empty.

Diesel shortages have also made it difficult for the city to use its generators at the pump station.

The city also confirmed that their water tankers are unable to deliver water to affected areas owing to a shortage of diesel, however, chain management is working towards getting diesel.

Eskom has reportedly been unable to rectify the power surge without police escorts.

There is no estimated time frame for when water will be reinstated in the affected areas such as eSikhaleni township, oGobandlovu, Port Durnford, Dlangezwa, Mangezi reserve, Felixton, Iniwe and other areas.
