WATCH: Motorists urged to avoid travelling as protests ensue

Scores of Zuma supporters embarked on violent protest action since yesterday morning calling for the former President to be released from prison.

MOTORISTS are urged to stay off the roads as unrest continues in most parts of KZN.

Scores of Zuma supporters embarked on violent protest action since yesterday morning calling for the former President to be released from prison.

Zuma is currently serving a 15-month sentence in Escourt Correctional Centre for contempt of court.

On Friday, the Pietermaritzburg High Court dismissed, with costs, Zuma’s urgent application to be released from prison.

Emergency Services are warning motorists to avoid travelling unless in the case of an emergency.

Police are also urging residents to refrain from sharing old or unconfirmed reports and images on social media.

So far, the ZO has received confirmation of the following road closures:

  • N2 South bound between Mtunzini toll and Dokodweni (Bridge 8 and 9). Two trucks are blocking the road.
  • N2 Pongola: A petrol tanker has been set alight.
  • Six trucks were set alight on the N2 North bound between Mtubatuba and Hluhluwe at Zamimphilo. The road is currently littered with debris. Police are present.
  • The N2 North and South bound before Mandini is closed.
  • The N2 at Gingindlovu is closed. Cars are turning back to Durban
