Protesters shut down Cubhu Lake water pumps

WATER supply has been interrupted in many communities within the eSikhaleni Cluster after protesters, who are angry over electricity outages, forcefully shut down Cubhu Water Works last night.

According to a statement issued by the City of uMhlathuze, water could not be pumped on Friday night from the main reservoir, which supplies the cluster community.

As a result, taps are expected to be dry in eSikhaleni township, oGobandlovu, Port Durnford, Dlangezwa, Mangezi Reserve, Felixton, Iniwe and other areas.

‘A group of people threatened employees and forced them to shut down the plant sabotaging the entire community. This also affected our power generators stationed at Cubhu Lake.

‘The plant is still not able to pump water until the situations return to normal,’ said the city statement.
