Celebrate Tutu with 90 acts of goodwill

Join #90GiftsForOurTutu and celebrate Desmond Tutu’s life of service to mark his 90th birthday

TO celebrate the 90th birthday of this globally-revered man, the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation has launched the #90GiftsForOurTutu campaign, with people encouraged to perform acts of goodwill this month.

From 9 July, people worldwide can join the collaborative celebration of Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s life by displaying one act of kindness for 90 days until his birthday on 7 October.

‘The Archbishop is a gift to South Africa and the world,’ said foundation CEO Piyushi Kotecha.

‘He has consistently, sometimes in the face of great odds, demonstrated ubuntu, respect, forgiveness, integrity, reconciliation and compassion, which are values worth upholding. We offer you a chance to give him the gift of your conscious reflection of these values.’

The campaign will lead up to another of the foundation’s gifts to the Archbishop, the Truth to Power exhibition, which will be launched in Cape Town in October.

This is a first-of-its-kind showcase of the Archbishop’s enormous contribution to South African and world history, and will be on permanent display at the Old Granary building in Cape Town, home to the foundation’s offices. The exhibition forms part of the foundation’s Knowledge Legacy Programme, which will showcase Tutu’s impact through its programmes, interactive exhibitions, events and educational material.

Founded in 2013, the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation represents one of the world’s most iconic leaders and his life-long partner. The foundation strives to ensure their uncompromised bravery is celebrated, communicated and curated for posterity.

Those who join the #90GiftsForOurTutu campaign will receive sneak peeks of the Truth to Power exhibition, and notifications of several exciting events taking place in the run-up to the Archbishop’s birthday.
