Calm before the possible storm at Nkandla

There is calm but an apprehensive atmosphere as the nation waits to see if Zuma will comply with the Constitutional Court ruling

AS the deadline looms for former President Jacob Ngedledleyihlekisa Zuma to hand himself over to the police, groups of journalists from various media houses have gathered outside his homestead at Nkandla.

There is calm but an apprehensive atmosphere as the nation waits to see if he will comply with the Constitutional Court ruling delivered on Tuesday.

Zuma was found guilty and sentenced to 15 months jail imprisonment for refusing to testify before the State Capture Commission.

However his supporters, including the MKVA and some ANC members, are against the court decision; they believe it was orchestrated by his rivals within the party, and that the sentence is too harsh.

On Thursday, religious leaders, his supporters and warriors arrived at the homestead to show their support.

Yesterday, MKVA spokesperson Carl Niehaus told the ZO that they are waiting for the Zuma family to give them an indication of whether Zuma will hand himself to the police or not.

‘The family is having a meeting around this issue and we are waiting for their decision.

‘If he is not willing to hand himself, we will support and protect him.

‘As the MKVA, we are against the ConCourt’s ruling,’ he said.

Today, members of Zuma family and the MKVA are expected to address the media about the way forward.

At this stage nothing is happening.

ZO journalist Muzi Zincume is on scene and will provide more details as the day progresses.
