KZN SAPS urges citizens to comply with lockdown regulations

1 763 arrested in KZN for non-compliance during Level 3 lockdown

THE president’s plea for citizens to follow all Covid-19 lockdown rules and regulations have fallen on deaf ears in recent weeks and, as a result, a large number of people across KZN have been arrested on a daily basis for non-compliance to regulations.

In operations carried out from 16 to 27 June, 1 763 individuals across KZN were arrested for various contraventions of the Level 3 regulations, including 1 025 for not wearing a mask.

During this period, 592 people were arrested for failing to stay at home during curfew, while 137 were arrested for selling or consuming liquor in a public place.

KZN provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has expressed concern on the issue, and stated that since Sunday night’s announcement, KZN police have stepped up their daily operations and are focused on ensuring all citizens in the province comply with the regulations to stem the spread of the virus.

Mkhwanazi pleaded with community members to work with law enforcement in halting the spread of Covid-19, by obeying the laws.

Co-ordinated multi-disciplinary operations are being conducted simultaneously across the province, focusing on hot spot areas and those areas where reports of non-compliance are received.

The police appeal to anyone with information regarding non-compliance of the adjusted alert Level 4 regulations, to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or report contraventions anonymously via the MySAPSApp.
