Mtuba tourism centre to boost local economy

The sod-turning ceremony last Tuesday of a R28-million tourism centre and small, medium and micro enterprise hub in Mtubatuba, will hopefully rejuvenate the local tourism industry and create more jobs.

Attended by MEC for Human Settlement Jomo Sibiya and the MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Sipho Hlomuka, the centre is a collaboration between Mtubatuba Municipality and the provincial government, which seeks to boost the local economy.

‘The construction of the two facilities will help harness the potential of tourism and give momentum to rural development,’ said Sibiya.

On the same day, Sibiya introduced the contractor appointed to build 100 houses as part of Operation Sukuma Sakhe at Mfekayi in Mtubatuba.

‘This marks the first of 500 houses announced by former MEC Peggy Nkonyeni last year,’ he said. ‘We have set aside about R13-million for this specific project.’
