End in sight for dysfunctional robots

Lights at the Woodchip Glade intersection have not worked for months, while the Foskor intersection has been dysfunctional for weeks.

NON-FUNCTIONAL traffic lights on the John Ross between Richards Bay and Empangeni have had motorists hot under the collar for many months, but the City of uMhlathuze says it is close to getting the repairs done.

The eSikhaleni intersection is often either completely non-functional or only the red and orange lights work, causing chaos and confusion when they turn ‘green’.

The ZO has published numerous articles relating to the issue and, while the municipality issued a press release three weeks ago confirming the lights would be fixed, no time frame was given.

Clarifying the details last week, city spokesperson Mdu Ncalane said, ‘The city is in the completion stage of the internal processes of appointing a company to fix the traffic lights.

‘All internal processes are targeted to be completed by the end of this week. The actual work being conducted on the traffic lights will take no longer than a week once it has commenced.’
