Many Durbanites, including Ballito residents, as well as those living in Durban’ Outer West and as far as Pietermaritzburg took to social media to make sure others also felt the earth tremor.

According to Volcano Discovery, there were unconfirmed reports of a tremor 34km northeast of Pietermaritzburg at 4am on Thursday morning.

‘There are no details yet on the magnitude or depth of this earthquake. We expect more accurate data to emerge soon.’

‘The location and magnitude mentioned are indicative and temporary until the AllQuakes monitoring service receives more exact scientific data from a national or international seismological agency.

‘Check back here and stay safe,’ they said in an online post.
