Vital winter drive for charity

WITH community organisations feeling the financial pinch following the pandemic, Richards Bay’s Walk in Faith organisation is beefing up its fundraising efforts to meet the needs of families who are struggling.

Founder, Merinda Ackerman has called on the public to help support their various income-generating initiatives by sponsoring projects for food, clothing and hygiene item collections.

The Dignity Drive Campaign, which will provide toiletries and hygiene hampers to 335 children, still requires sponsors for 89 young beneficiaries, with each hamper costing between R100 and R150.

Ackerman said, because of the pressing need, they hope to deliver the hampers soon.

‘We are also collecting food as part of our winter hampers to provide about 300 families with perishable foods,’ said Ackerman.

‘To this end, we have a Makro trip coming up and our aim is to collect between R15 000 and R20 000 to purchase groceries in bulk.’

Walk in Faith has hosted two fundraisers so far, to boost the funds required.

‘With winter here, we would also like to donate warm clothing, socks and blankets to families who are without, and are appealing for any donations from our communities.’

The organisation is continuing its ‘birthday surprises’ for children who benefit from the lunch scheme.

Children who have a birthday are treated to some cupcakes, doughnuts or sweet packs on their special day. Anyone who can assist with donations or sponsorship can contact Merinda on 081 5382331 or email merinda.a69@gmail.com.
