Superb fishing in north coast waters

NORTH coast waters have been super productive over the past week, providing anglers with size, variety and great fights.

Deep sea goers have fished these waters in which the couta have been thick and fast.

In the more southern areas of the north coast, angling has been the most consistent in terms of bigger fish.

These brutes have been found on the shallow reefs and have smashed the bigger baits. Bait of choice has been a live bonito or shad, otherwise rig a walla-walla or dead bonito.

Unfortunately, these fish are picky so ensure the bait looks as natural as possible and swims straight. Rock and surf anglers have also been opening up their summer accounts with some beasts along the north coast region.

Cape Vidal has been the place to go, as the reefs and ledges have proved to be great places to scratch for big edibles.

The pompano have been feeding in the sandier areas, preferring a crayfish and chokka bait on a light hook snoot. The benefit of this type of bait is that there are not many fish that can resist it.

The north coast has still got some flatfish coming out. A nice meaty mackerel bait will give you a good chance of hooking a late summer bruiser.
